South African cinema chain Ster-Kinekor introduced its new Cine Prestige luxury concept cinema at The Zone, Rosebank on 2 April. The cinema opened to the public on 3 April.
Doug Place, Ster-Kinekor marketing executive, likened the cinema to a business class flying experience. “I’m sorry that after tonight, conventional movie-going will be ruined for you,’ said Place. “I remember the first time I flew business class – it’s tough to go back to economy class.’
Place noted that it was the first elite cinema in Africa featuring the best in new digital technology, although the concept has been pioneered “very successfully’ in countries such as Australia and the UK.
The Cine Prestige cinema, equipped with state-of-the-art 3D screen and projection and powerful digital sound, has a total capacity for 48 patrons, with 38 single recliner leather seats and five double leather recliners. The seating arrangements allow for generous space between the seats to offer audiences comfort and privacy, complemented by an in-house menu featuring “the finest food and drink that any cinema has to offer’ as well as a VIP lounge with dedicated serving staff.
Tickets to Cine Prestige will cost R85.00, or start from R42.50 for Ster-Kinekor Movie Club, Discovery Vitality or Edgars Club Card members.
