On 25 March the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC) Touching Lives campaign was presented with the inaugural National Press Club / Proudly South African Media Award for the upliftment of communities through the media.
The public broadcaster was awarded jointly with the Primedia Broadcasting / Independent Group of Newspapers’ Lead SA initiative at an awards ceremony held in Pretoria.
Said SABC group executive of News Phil Molefe: “We appreciate the award and we thank the National Press Club and Proudly South African. Touching Lives is making a difference.”
According to the Press Club, the SABC’s corporate social responsibility (CSI) programme, Touching Lives, has changed the lives of hundreds of individuals and communities. It has mobilised government, the business community and other more fortunate people to improve the lives of the needy
The SABC’s Thebeetsile Keameditse also won an award for Radio Features Journalist of the Year. (Source: www.sabc.co.za)
