New NY filming law causes outrage

Studio Briefing reports that independent filmmakers are strongly opposed to proposed regulations drafted by the New York Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting that would require a permit and proof of liability insurance for any type of filming or photography at a single site for 30 minutes or more.

As per the regulations, five or more people using a tripod for more than 10 minutes would also require the permit and insurance (including families making home videos).

Civil libertarians, film journalists and tourists have joined the protest.
