South African documentary producer Robin Acutt’s latest film, “Been Down that Muddy Road: The Legend of Joe Barry” has been selected as a Signature Film for the Rhode Island International Film Festival, one of the 10 biggest festivals in the USA.
The film is about the notorious musician Joe Barry, who, apart from being a rock and roll star, was also a pimp, preacher, used-car salesman and mercenary. The film is directed by Acutt’s wife Carol Carimi Acutt, and is the first feature length release of their production company Safari Films.
They currently have several more documentary features in development, including two set in South Africa, and have optioned the fictional book “The Story of Lucky Simelane” by Cape Town based author Robin Malan to turn into a narrative feature.
