Entertainment channel MTV base and Kenya’s premiere radio station, Capital FM, have teamed up to re-define how young adults consume media by introducing MTV TRL Radio, an exciting new radio property for the Kenyan young-adult market.
On air as from 3 August, MTV TRL Radio is a weekly two-hour radio show on Capital and is a mix of the hottest hip-hop and R&B tunes. MTV TRL Radio also combines the latest entertainment news with interviews from the biggest stars, leveraging MTV’s global access to A-list musicians and entertainers around the globe. Kenyan radio fans have already had a taste of what’s expected on the show, with regular one-minute entertainment clips featured daily on Capital FM called MTV TRL All Access.
Sponsored by Coca-Cola and airing weekly on Capital FM, MTV TRL Radio is broadcast between 7pm and 9pm every Friday. The show is hosted by Capital FM radio presenter Chao with additional clips and inserts from MTV base celebrity guests and presenters Sizwe Dhlomo and Fikile Moeti. The MTV TRL Radio concept will subsequently be rolled out to other markets in sub-Saharan Africa.
Commented Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, MTV Networks Africa, “This is a natural evolution for the MTV brand in this market: we’re very committed to delivering our branded content to young people via media that are relevant to them. Radio is a very powerful medium for young adults and one which complements our existing TV distribution in the Kenyan market.’
Cyrus Kamau, General Manager of Capital FM Kenya, added: “Capital FM has provided high quality entertainment for the past 10 years and we continue to remain innovative and evolve with the times to bring quality entertainment to Kenya and the Diaspora. The partnership with the MTV brand is an attest to this as we come together to offer the first ever MTV TRL radio show in Kenya.’
