Cape Town-based Moonlighting Filmmakers is servicing “The Deal’, a feature film comedy starring William H. Macy (“Thank You for Smoking’, “Fargo’) and Meg Ryan (“When Harry Met Sally’, “Sleepless In Seattle’).
To be shot on location in South Africa commencing 26 March, “The Deal’ is directed by Steven Schachter (“The Wool Cap’, “Door to Door’, “A Slight Case of Murder’). The film, written by Macy and Schachter and adapted from Peter Lefcourt’s 1991 novel, “The Deal: A Novel of Hollywood’, spoofs Hollywood films and movie deal-making.
Muse Entertainment of Canada (“The Flood’) is the production company in association with Dogpond/Sydnyk Works and Union Square Entertainment. The film’s worldwide distributor is Peace Arch Entertainment.
Macy plays Charlie Berns, a long-time Hollywood producer on the verge of suicide, who cons a major studio to finance a $100m film based on a non-existent script, starring a black action star who has converted to Judaism, and to be shot in SA. When the leading man gets kidnapped and the picture gets shut down, Berns flees to Prague with a beautiful Hollywood studio executive Deidre Hearn (played by Ryan) and uses the studio’s blocked funds to make a completely different picture.
The film’s producers are Michael Prupas (“Human Trafficking’, “The Wind In The Willows’, “Niagara Motel’), Irene Litinsky (“Human Trafficking’, “Killer Wave’, “The Wool Cap’) and Keri Nakamoto.
Macy and Schachter are long-time collaborators having written the multiple Emmy® Award-winning TV movie “Door to Door’, and the Emmy® Award and Golden Globe nominated TV movie “The Wool Cap’.
