Full-service post production company Smoke & Mirrors has chosen Leader’s LV7600 rasterising waveform monitor as the facility’s reference test instrument for high dynamic range content processing. The LV7600 was supplied by Leader Europe UK channel partner Thameside for use at Smoke & Mirrors’ studios in central London.
“Our test and measurement requirements have not changed dramatically over the years,” comments Smoke & Mirrors’ senior engineer Tim Morgan. “That was until we encountered HDR. It became obvious very quickly that our existing test facilities were not up to the job. We carried out a full evaluation of all the test and measurement products that supported HDR measurement and it became evident that Leader was the logical choice with its LV7600 rasterizer and LV5600 portable waveform monitor.”
“Leader’s latest-generation ZEN-series products now provide post-production facilities with the tools to measure and deliver 4K/UHDTV and HDR content, whilst at the same time allowing them to upgrade to support both 12G-SDI and IP if required,” details Leader’s European business development manager Kevin Salvidge. “The real-time CINEZONE HDR false colour display, coupled with the CIE colour chart and the LV7600’s customisable layout, makes working in HDR simple and intuitive. The instrument can be upgraded to support both SMPTE 2022-6 and SMPTE 2110 video-over-IP as well as 12G-SDI operation. This allows Leader customers to wait and see which way the 4K/UHDTV infrastructure debate goes before investing in the new standards.”
“We have been successfully promoting Leader to post-production customers since our company started nearly 15 years,” adds Thameside sales executive Alex Small. “Leader has always been very responsive to customer requirements. With the new ZEN series, Leader now has the perfect suite of products to address post-production demands.”
The Leader LV7600 is a mains-powered rasterising SDI/IP waveform monitor in a compact 1U chassis. Designed for easy rack or desk mounting, it provides all the facilities needed to monitor UHD/HD/SD SDI as well as video-over-IP signals seamlessly in a hybrid operating environment.
A broad set of engineering-related features are provided by the LV7600 including test pattern generation, eye pattern display, closed-caption monitoring, CIE colour chart, high dynamic range measurement, focus assist, customisable screen layout, tally interface, 4K/UHD operation, 10G IP input and 12G-SDI interfaces. SMPTE 2022-6, SMPTE 2022-7 and the recently published SMPTE 2110 protocols are all supported. The LV7600 also incorporates Leader’s intuitive CINEZONE and CINELITE which are familiar to many content production staff.
IP-specific features include the ability to monitor transmission errors such as packet loss and packet jitter, and to simultaneously measure and display SDI and IP signal sources.
