If you don’t plan your post-production workflow during pre-production on a film, you
risk running into budget blunders or falling behind schedule. Keeping the footage
amount reasonable, managing editorial capacity and reducing storage costs means
asking the right questions and understanding process requirements in advance.
At the Media Productivity Series, which featured a line-up of creative industry
leaders who spoke about their knowledge in a number of sessions, editor Junbin
Chen discussed with attendees “Post-Production Questions that should be Answered
in Pre-Production’. Using the film Ilo Ilo, which she provided post-production support on, Chen addressed the importance of workflow and presented
considerations which should be made around data wrangling, transcoding, sound
syncing, storing and transferring footage, as well as colour grading and requirements for finishing different versions of the film.
