South African film Otelo Burning, the true story of South African teens who
discover freedom through surfing during apartheid, makes its digital premiere on
14 January 2014 on iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, Microsoft Xbox, Sony
Entertainment Network, SundanceNOW, VUDU and YouTube.
Directed, written and produced by South Africa’s Sara Blecher, the film is
available for pre-order through Sundance Institute’s Now Playing page.
Otelo Burning has won 17 international awards including Best Drama at the
2013 African Magic Awards; Best Cinematography and Best Child Actor
(Tshepang Mohlomi) at the 2012 African Movie Academy Awards; the Golden Owl
Audience Award for Best Film at Cinerama BC Brazil; and Best South African Film
at the Cape Winelands Film Festival.
The movie is Blecher’s first feature film, while South African Kevin Fleischer is the
executive producer. His credits include White Wedding, South Africa’s entry to
the Foreign Language category of the 2010 Academy Awards) and Paradise
Stop.
