The Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) in Windhoek, in collaboration with
non-profit organisation AfricAvenir, is hosting a double screening of poignant
African films on Wednesday 11 December at 18h30.
The FNCC aims to promote cultural support between Namibia and France while
supporting the Namibian cultural identity.
In Rhodesia Countdown, a black man living in Rhodesian society during a time of
conflict in 1969 experiences levels of humiliation, prejudice and degradation
before standing up to his white master. Directed by Michael Raeburn, the film is
a reflection of typical attitudes in the society of that era.
The massacre at Matabeleland, which occurred at the hands of Robert Mugabe’s
5th Brigade, features in Jenna Bass’s The Tunnel. Set in 1980, just after
Zimbabwe’s independence, the story is told through the imagination of a young
girl who believes her father has dug a tunnel to the city. The truth behind his
disappearance forces her to face reality.
