A new 13-part local series for bikers and motorcycle nuts hosted by soap star Jack Devnarain, The Bike Show, will start on DStv Channel 265 this weekend.

Devnarain, well-known to South African soapie fans as Rajesh Kumar on SABC 3’s Isidingo, loves his bikes and has been riding since he served as a policeman in Durban. That passion for motorcycling has only grown stronger over the years, and he often commutes to the Isidingo set with his much loved Harley-Davidson Sportster.

“Bikers are straight-talkers and The Bike Show talks their language,’ says Devnarain of the new programme. “We’ll be talking straight about a whole range of biking topics, and we’ll be having fun doing it!’

Starting on Saturday 7 April, The Bike Show will highlight all the latest bikes on the market and include opinions from well-known motorcycle journalists and industry players in a weekly half hour programme sponsored by Cayenne.

Seasoned journalist Mat Durrans will bring the latest tests from the field, while top SA racer Clinton Seller tortures a variety of often unsuitable machines during a fast lap for the weekly Bike Show TT. Guests will also discuss the latest in biking accessories and the show offers news and events from the local industry.

“We know this is a format that works,’ says IGNITION executive producer, Lindsay Vine, “Our viewers love having the variety of opinions we offer in our flagship motoring magazine programme IGNITION GT, so it made sense to bring the same diversity and honesty that a panel discussion offers to our bike viewers.’

In keeping with IGNITION’s strict editorial policy, producer Mat Durrans plans to include a wide variety of different types and models of bikes to keep viewers up to speed.

“South Africa is easily one of the best countries on the planet for motorcycling – brilliant weather, stunning scenery, fantastic roads, limitless off-road adventures and first class race circuits – no wonder many of the world’s manufacturers test here. We’ll bring you all that, plus independent reviews of the latest new models, useful product advice as well as local and international news.’

The Bike Show will broadcast on Saturdays at 2am, 12pm and 8pm and on Sundays at 8am, 4pm and 11.30pm.

IGNITION is South Africa’s only dedicated TV motoring platform. It currently broadcasts weekends only on DStv channel 265 in a staggered pattern consisting of nine hours of fresh content weekly. It is the third in a stable of TV brands that includes DStv’s popular design, decor and property station, The Home Channel, and premier South African business channel, Summit TV.
