MARTIN CHEMHERE writes…Independent Ghanaian feature film Sinking Sands has been picked up by US company IndieFlix Studios in a deal that covers distribution on platforms such as iTunes, Netflix and Amazon Video on Demand.

From the first week of November Sinking Sands will be available on VOD worldwide. It is also available on DVD.

Ghanaian writer / director Leila Djansi comments: “We are very excited as this deal is a bit more beneficial than a traditional distribution deal. However, it is harder work as sales will have to be driven by lots of publicity.’

Sinking Sands is produced by Dave Harper with funding by Turning Point Media and (unnamed) Australian associates.

The film’s message is “Saying no to violence against women’. It was shot in Accra in May / June 2010 with completion in August this year.

Sinking Sands won AMAA 2011 awards for Best Screenplay, Best Make-up and Best Actress in a Leading Role, as well as Best Picture, Best Art Direction, Best Wardrobe and Best West African Collaboration at last year’s Ghana Movie Awards.

The film has screened in Ghana, the US and Nigeria and also at CinemAfrica Film Festival, Stockholm Sweden (2011), Pan Africa Film Festival, Los Angeles (2011), and Marche Du Film, Cannes Film Festival (2011).
