A new home-grown show from pay-TV African music channel Channel O titled Original African Stories will make its debut on Thursday 13 October at 6pm.
The 10-episode series has been created to hear from artists, managers, producers, DJs, record labels, video directors and others what really happened in the making of the continent’s biggest hits.
Three artists and their hits will feature in the debut episode offering never-before-heard details, and candid moments as the stories behind the making of chart-toppers are unravelled.
Episode one will give a look at K.O being very late for L-Tido’s “We Rolling’ video shoot; how the SAMA’s inspired “Umlilo’ by Big Nuz, and a look behind P Square’s big budget “E No Easy’.
In episode two AKA will give insight into the inspiration behind “Victory Lap’; M.I. will reveal why “Undisputed’ was shot in the same location as Banky W’s “Feeling It’ and Zyon of Liquideep will explain why he was stalking Nonhle Thema in the Fairytale video.
All the artists will give their views on what makes a hit song from finding the beat, writing the lyrics, finding collaborators to the inspiration behind the music videos. It’s the creative A to Z on how to make a hit single.
According to a statement, “Original African Stories is a salute to the blood, sweat, and tears behind the songs that are flying the flag for African music, throughout the continent – and beyond. It’s a celebration of the achievements of the continent’s best – in a way that’s never been seen before’.
