South African music and film director, Tshidino Ndou from Tshakhuma, has wrapped up auditions for his upcoming movie called Fakebook.
The movie, which is about Facebook, will be shown on local content pay-TV channel Mzansi Magic and features dialogue in English, Tsonga, Sotho, Zulu and Venda.
“I would like to praise Mzansi Magic and Soweto TV for giving South African filmmakers a platform to showcase their talent,” says Ndou.
Written and directed by Ndou, the movie was commissioned by Dzhatsha Films and Vhadino Entertainment and is scheduled for release in October this year.
Auditions were held in Johannesburg – at the Sport Focus offices and Thohoyandou Secondary School. Twenty participants were selected to undergo Dzhatsha Films basic training before starting with the rehearsals for the Fakebook movie.
Ndou is not new to the industry. He has already directed movies such as Hu do dzula nnyi which features TV stars, Hu bvuma na fhasi, Vho-Mulingo, Mathaithai and Mphemphe i ya netisa. All his movies have recently been screened on Soweto TV.
Albert Mamphwe, better known as Alos “M” of “u dzima fola” fame said he is happy to be working alongside the experienced Ndou as line producer.
Staterpack Mafela, also known as Muthuwavhathu by his Facebook friends has been selected to play the main role. Staterpack was selected from Joburg auditions and is excited to be part of the film. “Facebook has taken over our lives therefore there is a need for this movie to be produced,” Staterpack said.
Other actors such as Sinthumule “Mphemphe” Jeffrey, Mawelewele Masindi and Takalani Funyufunyu have been selected to play alongside Staterpack.
Ndou is also a professional musician. He released two reggae albums to date, Ndi do fa na inwi (Till death do us part) and Nne Ndi Nne (I am who I am). His hit song Ni songo nyadza, meaning do not undermine, featuring another reggae icon Humbulani Ramagwedzha is currently causing havoc on Phalapha;a FM and Soweto TV.
