South African cinemas have traditionally been situated in the big metropolitan areas and have thus not been able to cater for audiences living far away from these centres. On 14 April cinema chain Ster-Kinekor will open what it describes as its “biggest, best and uber modern’ cinema complex in the northern region of the Limpopo province on 14 April.
The 2,100sqm, 996 seater complex which features six state-of-the-art cinemas in full digital sound and 3D technology will be located in the super-regional Mall of the North in Polowkane.
The new complex will also create employment opportunities for approximately 20 local Polokwane residents.
“Ster-Kinekor has chosen Mall of the North as the location for the brand new theatre complex as it is the first super-regional mall of its size and stature in Polokwane. Mall of the North is strategically positioned and will serve the entire northern region, including the cross-border market,’ says Crawford Leitch, Group Property and Development Executive for Ster-Kinekor Theatres.
Leitch adds: “The cinema complex is geared towards all customers. It will also offer a kiosk with a full range of drinks, popcorn and confectionary and it will be user-friendly for disabled customers as well.’
