Soweto residents will be able to see a free screening of the documentary, Mandela: Son of Africa, Father of a Nation, at the Maponya Mall on Thursday 11 February, courtesy of cinema chain Ster-Kinekor.
The screening coincides with the 20th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s release from prison.
This documentary on South Africa’s most beloved leader was directed by Jo Menell and Angus Gibson. It traces Mandela’s life from his early days to his inauguration as the first black president in South Africa, a moment that would later change the face of politics and life in South Africa.
Mandela: Son of Africa, Father of a Nation forms part of the Free At Last Film Festival, which runs in Cape Town and Johannesburg (Wits University and Maponya Mall) from 11-13 February 2010 (www.freeatlast.co.za).
Soweto viewers must book at the Maponya Mall cinema between 10 February and before noon on 11 February to ensure seats for the free screening.
