South African production house Light & Dark Films has pre-sold the UK rights to its two upcoming films to UK distributor Kaleidoscope Entertainment. Greener Grass is scheduled to go into pre-production on 3 May this year, with Tim Greene’s Skeem following on 2 August.
Light & Dark Films’ Zaheer Goodman-Bhyat is producing both films and will make his feature film directorial debut with Greener Grass, which he co-wrote with FHM editor Hagen Engler, based on the latter’s novel.
Goodman-Bhyat, who produced Confessions of a Gambler, describes both films as comedies with strong satirical elements. “Like any good satire, they have strong messages about our society, but you need to scratch beneath the surface for that. These films are both skewed to male audiences aged 16-35, ie. the people who buy the tickets.”
Skeem is tagged as an irreverent comedy about money, friendship and greed, while Greener Grass is described as a stylish, highly charged, action packed crime caper that moves from urban jungles to real jungles.
