Worldwide, everyone enjoys a good laugh. In recognition of this, Nu Metro Cinemas launched a series of comedy films in partnership with comedy management and events company, Podium. The Podium Comedy Series is a series of comedy films that began screening at all Nu Metro Cinemas nationwide in August 2009.
The films feature the best of South Africa’s local comedians and top international acts, with amongst others Loyiso Gola, Mel Miller, Trevor Noah, Riaad Moosa, Kagiso Lediga, Cedric the Entertainer, Steve Harvey, Katt Williams and Dylan Moran.
Ricky Human, business executive: TV and Home Entertainment of Nu Metro Film Distribution, explains that along with looking at business opportunities for TV and Home Entertainment, "we also look at the opportunities for theatrical, and the comedy series fitted perfectly. It extends the brand onto other platforms and exposes local content to a South African audience."
Billy Dundee, New Business manager: Home Entertainment Nu Metro Film Distribution adds: "We have been working with Podium for a while now. We started off on The Pure Monate show. We worked with them on distributing their content to find new ways of accessing different markets. Theatrical is just the next step. We believe that it is going to be successful, especially in the long run."
