Proving the box office clout of the Oscars, this year’s newly crowned best film, Slumdog Millionaire, has crossed the $200m mark in box office returns worldwide. This makes it one of the few independently produced movies to achieve this milestone.
The film garnered worldwide buzz well before the Oscars, winning every major award in the run-up thereto.
Slumdog Millionaire was released in South Africa on 6 March.
