Birds Sing in Kigali, a Polish-US-Canadian-South African project, to be produced by Freddy Braidy will shortly go into production. Hollywood star Nick Nolte is to play the lead role the film which is based on a short story by the Polish writer Wojciech Albinski who lives in South Africa. Also involved as producers are Polish husband-and wife team Krzysztof and Joanna Krauze.
The action of the film is set during the massacre in Ruanda in 1994. Its main protagonist, an ornithologist, saves a girl from the Tutsi tribe. The credits of 66-year-old Nolte include Rich Man, Poor Man, The Thin Red Line, The Prince of Tides, Cape Fear and Hotel Ruanda.
Krzysztof and Joanna Krauze’s last film – Saviour’s Square – was a great success in Poland and abroad. It won the top accolade at the International Film Festival in Trieste.
