The Los Angeles Times reports that a number of top Hollywood screenwriters are grouping into collectives to negotiate deals with studios to receive a percentage of box office takings. As per the deals, the writers accept reduced fees for their scripts but retain greater creative control over them.
One of these groups, Writing Partners, has signed a deal with Fox whereby each writer will get a fee of $300 000 for a script, 2.5% of the film’s gross and have a say in the studio’s proposed script changes.
