Last year the first series of “Journey to a Dream’ won the South African Film and Television Golden Horn (SAFTA) for best educational programme in the television non fiction category. The second series is scheduled for broadcast on SABC2 Saturdays at 08h30, starting 16 June.
“Journey to a Dream profiles individuals who have achieved their dreams through learnerships. The messages show how peoples’ lives have been affected by the Sector Education & Training Authority (SETA). The series is based on SETA’s vision to develop skills and create sustainable employment for all,’ explains Masetha Serakoana, commissioning editor at SABC Education.
The second series of “Journey to a Dream’ is produced for SABC Education by the same award-winning team of series one, Black Heat. Presenter Lesley Nkosi plays various key roles having extensive experience in all aspects of production. Producer Judy Naidoo has produced more than 150 corporate videos, documentaries and the occasional commercial. She won gold Loerie in 1999 and two silver Loeries in 2000.
“The 13 episode of “Journey to a Dream’ written and directed by Heidi Uys tell heartwarming stories of individuals who, with the aid of SETA have overcome huge obstacles. Stories include Nosicelo Nhlapo, a forced to-be housewife and cleaner now studying in the nursing field.
Makhiba Mollo is blind and has managed to complete her political science degree. Mobri Mbogeni started off selling fruit on the streets and is now an aspiring entrepreneur. Tshegofatso Rasebitse, a dynamic young achiever with an incredible spirit, chose to leave university in exchange for a learnership programme.
Eric Molebatsi is now permanently paralysed but still manages to take care of his young child and support his family. Thiathu Monyai the metallurgist is one of six children with a single mother who managed to go to school and get a college education,’ concludes Masetha.
