Ian McKellen has signed on to voice the narrator role in Matthew Vaughn’s romantic fantasy “Stardust” for Paramount Pictures.
The film has a high profile cast including Claire Danes, Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer and Charlie Cox. “Stardust’ wrapped production towards the end of last year. McKellen is recording his part during postproduction before “Stardust’s” July 27 release date, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
McKellen, a two-time Oscar nominee for his roles in “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” and “Gods and Monsters,” appeared in two of the biggest hits of 2006: “The Da Vinci Code” and “X-Men: The Last Stand.” He is possibly best known for playing Gandalf in the “Rings” trilogy.
The film is based on Neil Gaiman’s novel about a young man who promises his beloved that he will retrieve a fallen star by venturing into the Faerie realm of witches, goblins, gnomes, talking animals and evil trees. Gaiman’s fairy tale was published in 1997 as a four-issue DC Comics miniseries with illustrations by Charles Vess.
