Hollywoodreporter.com reports that in sharp contrast to the 2005 US box office summer season, which saw a marked decline in cinema attendance, this summer American moviegoers have been flocking back to the multiplexes.
No big surprise to learn that the biggest box office spinner in the US during this period has been Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, which is the only film to have topped $400m both this year and last. The next three big earners were the animated Cars ($242m), X-Men: The Last Stand ($234m) and The Da Vinci Code ($217.5m).
Last summer the biggest earner was Star Wars: Episode III a€” Revenge of the Sith at $379.8m.
