The Loeries has made it even harder for the 2006 birds to be caught, especially in the animation craft category, according to animation hotshop Masters and Savant.
“This year there will only be gold crafts awarded, so no silver or bronze bird will sit on the perch of animation studios from here on out,” says creative director Roger Smythe. “”We will remember that in 2005, the highest animation craft awarded was silver, so if better and stronger entries do not grace the panel this year, no animation studio will be awarded with the golden bird.”
“The Loeries plan is to make the award programme as tough as international awards such as the Cannes and Clios, which is a good step to lifting the creative standard of South Africa to the heights where it belongs,” Smythe says, “and to make things fair, the Loeries have also decided that no international commercials will be accepted unless they were created for and flighted in South Africa – another good step to ensure that the bird is given to those who truly deserve it.”
Competition for this year’s animation Loeries is mounting as SA’s animation studios gear up for the event in September.
