Four post-graduates have been given the opportunity to be mentored at Franz Marx Films, the company responsible for producing pay-TV broadcaster M-Net’s long running soapie, Egoli a€” Place of Gold.

The film and television industry in any country is notoriously difficult to get into. Because of their lack of experience, entry level professionals find it extremely frustrating breaking into the business.

Earlier this year, Franz Marx Films took the initiative by mentoring four post graduates, and fast tracking them through enough industry related experience to fill junior positions in their field of study.

The post-grads have been mentored by senior department heads for six months in the technical, production, publicity and post production areas of Egoli. Their exposure will attempt to marry their previous theoretical study with the practices of a large multi camera studio drama.

The Egoli post-grads have undertaken a project of their own by using their last month to complete a 10-minute documentary project, aptly named Baby steps in Big Shoes. Egoli infrastructure will be used to complete the documentary.

The documentary will focus on their mentoring experience at Egoli. Each post graduate will give insight into their unique experience of the different departments and people they have worked with.
