Light and Dark Films, a Cape Town based production company which creatively
produces and finances feature films and TV series, has developed a new Rising
Stars funding facility to grow and support emerging talent.
CEO Zaheer Goodman-Bhyat said, “This is an enormous moment for Light and Dark
Films. We have worked hard over the past ten years to build a track record of
success for our shareholders who believe in the commercial viability of film in
South Africa as well as the artistic goals that we want to achieve, and they are
rewarding us by backing that success with cash’.
In the last decade Light and Dark Films has produced five feature films and four
long running TV series which have sold in over 100 territories. Known for films such
as Konfetti and Jimmy in Pienk, the company aims to
continue this strategy of developing high quality scripts which have strong artistic
and commercial merits, with Rising Stars expected to produce between three and
five films per year.
The initiative is headed by Fiela Jonck, who has been tasked with finding and
fostering future talent. Jonck commented, “LNDF is a special environment. It’s built
by creatives with a focus on nurturing creative talent. We are super excited about
the emerging talent that is all around us and we have been building resources to
nurture and support that talent.’
Light and Dark Films is currently evaluating scripts to go in to production early next
year.
