The Bioscope Independent Cinema in partnership with the Embassy of Denmark features a film festival of the best contemporary Danish films until 21 September.
The festival, titled New Danish Cinema, features family screenings, a Q and A
session with a Danish documentary filmmaker and a live composition screening.
Highlights of the festival include:
Only God Forgives
Ryan Gosling and Nicolas Winding Refn, the director of Drive,return to
the big screen with this Bangkok-set thriller. Tasked with avenging his brother’s
death, a drug smuggler becomes entangled with a shadowy, unhinged policeman,
who follows his every move.

Cinema Improvisando
At a screening of the Danish classic Vampyr, composer Paul Hanmer
presents a live improvised score to the film. The film, directed by Carl Theodor
Dreyer, portrays a traveller who visits an old inn and finds evidence of vampires.

The Red Chapel and The
Ambassador
The director of these two Danish documentaries, Mads Brugger, will attend screenings
and host a Q and A session after each film.
The Red Chapel offers audiences a rare glimpse into the world of a
Danish-Korean theatre group which travels to North Korea to present their absurd
sketch comedy.

In The Ambassador Brugger goes undercover as a Liberian Ambassador
to expose the blood diamond trade in Africa.

Lost in Africa
A Danish eleven year old who is passionate about playing soccer moves to Kenya and
loses an autographed ball to a group of locals. On a mission to get it back, he gets
lost in the expansive Nairobi shantytown of Kibera. The film was a favourite at
international children’s film festivals and is suitable for family viewing.
