The Annecy Film Festival (AFF) is the world’s biggest and longest-running animation festival which takes place from 9 to 14 June in Annecy, France. This year the festival will highlight the technique of stop-motion animation, which requires working with thousands of frames in order to make objects come to life for a movie.
A number of featured events will focus on this trend including:

• A series of eight stop-motion shorts titled The Invincibles, as well as the documentary Ray Harryhausen: Special Effects Titan
Conference
• Anatomy of a Studio: Aardman Animations
• Peter Lord presentation of the stop-motion studio behind Wallace and Gromit
Open-air Screenings
• ParaNorman by Sam Fell and Chris Butler
• The Tale of the Fox by Ladislas Starewitch
Exhibitions
• 15 international artists and the different production stages of their stories on display at La Gaite lyrique
• Exhibition at the École superieure d’art de l’agglomeration d’Annecy, echoing the Gaite lyrique Motion Factory exhibition
• Bastien Dubois and Julie Nobelen stop-motion animation at the Centre Courier
The 2014 competition program comprises of 55 short films, 29 television films, 36 commissioned films and 56 graduation films. There will also be 36 short films which feature out of competition.
The International Animation Film Market (MIFA) takes place alongside AFF from 11 to 13 June and will offer attendants the chance to develop their networks and increase opportunities relating to co-productions, acquisitions or funding for programmes with over 2,400 industry professionals.
