Living Funeral, a short film aimed at creating awareness on breast cancer has
been selected to screen at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. Directed by
Udoka Oyeka and produced by Applegazer and KarmaCause Productions with
the Pink Pearl Foundation, the film will screen throughout the festival at the
Short Film Corner. It is currently the first homegrown Nigerian film to screen at
the festival.
The Short Film Corner has been described as the essential platform for
filmmakers to show their work to industry decision makers and take large strides
for their future careers. Living Funeral, which stars Liz Ameye (formerly known as
Liz Benson), Stephanie Wilson and Norbert Young, is set against the backdrop of
delusional stability. A young girl battling with breast cancer in the last days of
her life arranges a farewell for her family to help ease their pain.
The film recently screened at the 2014 Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles
and is also an official selection at the ongoing New York African Film Festival. The
film garnered eight nominations at the 2014 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards
and has been nominated in the Best Short Film Category for the 2014 Africa
Movie Academy Awards.
Living Funeral has been selected to screen at the 2014 Durban International
Film Festival.
