On 31 March, South African radio station 5FM announced that its morning drive show DJ, Gareth Cliff, would be leaving the station.
The station’s programming manager, Tim Zunckel said: “Gareth Cliff and 5FM are parting ways after an exceptional journey as Gareth will be pursuing further opportunities in his personal capacity.’
Cliff added: “I’ve had an amazing decade at 5FM together with my “one-of-kind’ team and I have loved every minute. The journey has been an unforgettable one but I’m excited about the future.”
He also released a statement on his website which read: “Today, 31st March 2014, I did my last show on 5FM after a decade at the SABC. It’s time for a change. My team and my audience are like my dysfunctional radio family and we want to offer something new and exciting. After two suspensions and several close-shaves, dozens of BCCSA complaints and almost as many management changes at the SABC, it’s time to get unhinged!’
It is not yet known who will be replacing Cliff.
Zunckel concluded: “He has been a huge asset to the 5FM team and we will miss him as an on-air personality and part of the brand. We’re excited about the new line-up and will be announcing as to what listeners can expect in the near future.’
