The Pendoring Advertising Awards, an industry event which honours distinction in advertising executed in local vernacular with a primary focus on Afrikaans, takes place on 24 October 2014 at Vodacom World in Midrand, after running for two years in Cape Town.
Franette Klerck, Pendoring General Manager says: “The Pendoring Awards are indicative of a dynamic advertising industry that recognises the value of advertising in one’s mother tongue, be it Afrikaans, isiZulu, isiXhosa or another local language, and will continue to promote greater awareness of this.’
Gold and silver winners across a number of categories are awarded a cash prize while the top student receives a study bursary worth R10,000. The Umpetha Award winner receives a cash prize of R20,000 and the winner of Pendoring’s highest accolade, the Prestige Prize, receive an overseas study trip worth R50,000.
Previous Prestige Prize winners include Draftfcb Johannesburg in 2013, Ogilvy Johannesburg in 2012 and Draftfcb Cape Town in 2011.
The Pendoring Advertising Awards welcome the submission of entries from 12 May to 21 July 2014 and Klerck adds: “All campaigns from 16 July 2013 to 21 July 2014 are eligible to be entered. Judging will take place on 21, 22 and 23 August. It is anticipated that, as in previous years, the awards will garner much interest, especially for the two main awards – the Prestige and Umpetha Awards.’
Caxton Community Papers is one of the 2014 sponsors which offer support to the awards due to Afrikaans being the principal language in many of its publications as well as the home language of a many of its readers.
Bruce Sturgeon, CEO of Caxton Community Papers says: “Although excellence in Afrikaans advertising remains Pendoring’s primary mission, in recent years categories have been introduced which expand this focus to include any indigenous language and Truly South African advertising, which we feel are also worthy of support.’
