South African producers of new Afrikaans-language film Pad na jou Hart, The Film Factory and Memory Box Productions, have announced that the movie has earned R3.1m during its first weekend of screening from 14 to 16 February.
Currently number one at the local box office, 71,000 moviegoers have seen Pad na jou Hart.
Says Pieter Geldenhuys from Ster-Kinekor Entertainment, “Pad na jou Hart surpassed all new international releases this past weekend, which include Monuments Men and Anchorman 2. It is the biggest opening weekend to date for an Afrikaans film and improved on the record opening weekends of Afrikaans hit movies such as Liefling, Platteland and Semi-Soet.’
The filmmakers thank everyone who went to see the movie and who provided constructive feedback. “We are also very grateful for every positive review and the great response, which greatly contributed to the overall excitement of the film,’ they conclude.
The movie stars Ivan Botha, Donnalee Roberts, Marius Weyers, Kevin Smith, Solomon Cupido and David James, among others.
Pad na jou Hart is screening nationwide in South Africa through Ster-Kinekor.
