South African producer Anant Singh’s Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom screened
at the Ziegfield Theatre in New York, hosted by U2 and editor-in-chief of
American Vogue, Anna Wintour.
Idris Elba, who portrays Nelson Mandela, Naomie Harris, who plays the part of
Winnie Mandela, director Justin Chadwick and Mandela’s daughter Zenani were
in attendance.
After the screening, Zenani Mandela said: “I am pleased that U2 have written
this beautiful song, Ordinary Love, for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. Bono
and the band have been supporters of my father and the 46664 campaign for
many years and I am delighted that they hosted the screening tonight together
with Anna Wintour.’
Singh commented, “We thank Zenani for representing the South African team at
the screening last night. The venue of The Ziegfeld Theatre is of special
significance to us and to Zenani as she was with Madiba when he was the guest
of honour at the benefit screening of Cry, The Beloved Country for the Nelson
Mandela Children’s Fund which took place there eighteen years ago.’
Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom releases nationwide in South Africa on
Thursday 28 November 2013.
