SA thriller picked up for Hollywood remake

BREAKING NEWS: The action thriller iNumber Number, by South African director Donovan Marsh (Spud, Spud 2), has caught the attention of American motion picture studio, Universal Pictures, which has optioned the remake rights on the film.

The original film was produced by Quizzical Pictures’ Harriet Gavshon, JP Potgieter and Mariki van der Walt, however, Chris Morgan (writer of the Fast & Furious film series), and partner Emile Gladstone of Universal-based Chris Morgan Productions will produce the remake along with Aram Tertzakian of XYZ Films. The studio and its producers will also find a new writer for the re-creation.

XYZ Films brokered the underlying rights deal with Universal Pictures on behalf of the producers of iNumber Number.

The team in charge of overseeing production of the film will include Nate Bolotin and Nick Spicer, partners at XYZ Films, as executive producers. Ainsley Davies will manage production for Chris Morgan Productions and Kyle Franke for XYZ films while Anikah McLaren, vice-president of production and Chloe Yellin, creative executive, will supervise on behalf of Universal Pictures.

iNumber Number premiered at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival and is a heist film featuring an honest undercover policeman who, after being cheated out of a major promotion, infiltrates a gang and plans to take part in a one-off robbery. Things turn ominous when the gang discovers his true identity and takes his partner hostage.
