The new South African animated feature, Khumba (including 3D), went straight to the
top of the local box office in its opening weekend (25 to 27 October). Released with 119
prints, it made a huge R1.7m, bumping Hollywood heavyweight, Gravity (including 3D)
(67 prints) from top spot.
Meanwhile, another South African film, Nothing for Mahala (21 prints), continues its
highly successful run at the box office. It has made just over R2m to date in four weeks
of release.
Following Khumba and Gravity in the top five over the weekend were three new
Hollywood releases: Battle of the Year: Dream Team (including 3D) (53 prints), which
made just over R1m; About Time (59 prints), which made R877,236; and Riddick (31
prints), which made R554,146.
