UK-based African Movie Channel (AMC), the world’s first global channel dedicated to the best movies and series from Nollywood and the rest of Africa, arrives in Nigeria in August.
AMC officially launches in Nigeria on Sunday 11 August at the Grand Ballroom of the Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Victoria Island in Lagos. The who’s who in media and business, along with top Nollywood celebrities, are expected to attend the event, which will be hosted by Teju Babyface, with Andre Blaze on the red carpet.
In 2006, AMC launched Europe’s first channel dedicated to top-quality Nollywood and other African movies, and also pioneered the online digital distribution of Nollywood movies and drama series at full-screen DVD quality a year later through its online on-demand channel, and a partnership with British Telecom (BT) on its BT Vision Download Store.
The 24/7 African movies and series linear channel dedicated to showing only the best quality movies and series primarily from Nollywood was launched in May 2011, with AMC’s technical partners, Advanced Broadcast Services (ABS) in London providing a fully managed playout service of the channel. ABS is one of the largest playout and TV facilities companies in Europe.
Notable TV platforms carrying AMC include TopTV in South Africa; StarTimes in Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Mozambique; Smart TV in Ghana; Zuku in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda; and Continental Digital in Tanzania.
AMC is the fastest growing channel in Africa, and has quickly become one of the most popular channels on the continent, already available in more than five million homes across several African countries.
