Twenty-seven emerging filmmakers from all over Africa have been selected to participate in workshops scheduled to take place during the 16th edition of the Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF), which runs from 29 June to 7 July.
Participants will attend three separate workshops – Script Writing, Film Production and Assistant Directing.
“We congratulate the selected participants,’ says Daniel Nyalusi, assistant festival director and festival manager. “The participants will be divided up as follows: 10 for Script Writing, seven for Film Production and another 10 for Assistant Directing.’
In the Script Writing workshop participants are Philbert Aime Mbabazi and Jean Kwezi (both from Rwanda), Denis Kimathi (Kenya), Gabriel Kami (Tanzania) and Christine Awor (Uganda), who are all sponsored. Self-sponsored in the same category are Joan Kabugu (Kenya), Haidary Yahaya (Tanzania/Zanzibar) , Irene Sanga, Fadhili Mfate, and Zaka Riwa (all from Tanzania).
Tanzanians John Kallage, Abdallah Mambia, Protas Pius Rubaba and Joseph Mpangala, as well as Ally Othman, Iddi Haji, Yusuph Kisoki (all from Tanzania/Zanzibar) will participate in the Film Production Workshop as self-sponsored.
The Assistant Director Workshop will feature all self-sponsored filmmakers: Edwin Mallya, Amir Shivji, Nasser Mkugwa, Issa Mohamed, Biubwa Kombo, Grace Cleti, Richard Magumba, Daniel Manege, Walter Elia (all Tanzanians) and Kenyan Elly Omukubi.
