The theme of the Broadcast, Film & Music Africa (BFMA) 2013 show, which runs on 26 and 27 June at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre in Nairobi, Kenya, is: Building a world class electronic media industry in Africa.
According to Aitech Africa, the organisers of the event, BFMA 2013 offers great promotion, networking, sales and investment opportunities for the region’s young filmmakers, animators and other content developers through a wide range of free or subsidised promotion platforms.
These include the Africa Media Business Exchange, held in partnership with FilmBiz, where African digital media start-ups are offered a comprehensive mentoring, marketing and pitching opportunity. A full-day mentoring session is hosted by GrowthHub and participants will be coached in preparing and delivering their investment pitches. In addition, each participant will be allocated a demo area in the BFMA expo, where they will have an opportunity to network and promote their products and services to all BFMA participants. Each participant will have a 15-minute one-on-one pitching session with each of the up to 20 investment funds, international and local production houses, commissioning editors and other investors.
The Film-Makers & Content Developers Pavilion is held in partnership with the Kenya Film Commission, the Kenya ICT Board and KITOS. This is a free promotion platform for 30 filmmakers and content develops to demo their productions, network and do business with BFA participants. This event is intended to provide a unique marketing opportunity for promising newcomers in the continent’s emerging film and content development industry.
For the BFMA Preview Cinema, film producers from throughout the continent are invited to screen their documentaries, short dramas, light entertainment, animation and other shorts.
The Animators Pavilion is held in partnership with the Association of Animation Artistes. This comprises a specialised expo area for the region’s vibrant and rapidly growing animation industry – providing a free opportunity for up to 12 animation companies, individuals or groups to demo their creations.
