The AfricaMagic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCAs) cocktail, which took place on Friday 8 March 2013 at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, Nigeria, in anticipation of its red carpet night on 9 March was honoured by a collection of leading African filmmakers, actors, actresses and industry stakeholders from across Africa.
In attendance was some of the film industry’s finest: Akin Omotoso, Rosie Motene, Majid Michel, Jackie Appiah, Olu Jacobs, Joke Silva, Kunle Afolayan, Obi Emelonye, Sara Fletcher and Omotola Jalade Ekeinde to mention a few. Also in attendance was CEO of the National Film and Video Foundation, Zama Mkosi, Jara presenters, Uti Nwachukwu and Helen Paul and the lead presenters for the upcoming inaugural AMVCAs red carpet night, IK Osakioduwa, Big Brother Africa host and StarGist Vimbai Muntinhiri.
M-Net Africa MD Biola Alabi honoured all nominees in the running for the first ever set of the AMVCAs awards in her opening speech. This was followed on by addresses by the Nigerian Federal Minister of Trade and investment Olusegun Aganga, Chairman of Multichoice Nigeria Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya and Multichoice Nigeria MD John Ugbe.
In addition, the evening was hosted by Kenyan Radio DJ, Fareed Kimani and Tinsel star, Ms. Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi, while Nigerian musicians Praiz and Waje entertained.
