TCM, Channel 137 on DSTV, will be kicking of its new Essence of Cool slot with a month of James Dean.
The film that became synonymous with James Dean, Rebel Without a Cause, screens on Tuesday 12 March at 19h00.
The movie, which showed in 1955, is about Jim Stark (James Dean), a rebellious new kid in town. Here, Jim hopes to find the love he doesn’t get from his family. Though he has a romantic relationship with Judy (Natalie Wood) and forms a friendship with John, nicknamed Plato (Sal Mine), Jim must still prove himself to his peers in switchblade knife fights and “chickie’ games during which cars race toward a seaside cliff.
Rebel Without a Cause was directed by Nicholas Ray and has achieved cult status.
