Ghanaian star in Tinsel

As from this week, audiences of continental pay-TV platform DStv are seeing Ghanaian leading man Majid Machel, one of the fastest rising stars in Africa, play a guest role in M-Net AfricaMagic’s popular soapie, Tinsel.

Machel plays himself in Tinsel, which is broadcast at 20h30 CAT on AfricaMagic Entertainment.

Says M-Net regional manager Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu: “Majid is a professional who brings an infectious positive energy to his work and that’s remarkable for someone who is so in demand, so busy and so popular. We’ve been extremely fortunate that, in addition to having a very talented core cast and crew, we’ve also been able to host super guest stars on Tinsel, such as Majid, Richard Mofe-Damijo and Osas Ighodaro.’

When asked why he took on the Tinsel guest role, Machel replies: “A long time ago I realised that my acting is not only about myself, it’s an extension of many things that I hope for in our industry. So I made up my mind to extend myself to film projects that improve our movie making prospects within the continent. I believe that this can also inspire young actors coming behind me. Tinsel is a typical reflection of that, after all, its’ one of the most successful soaps out of Nigeria.’

Having completed filming of his scenes for the soap, Majid reveals his experience on the series was very positive. “I actually really enjoyed myself, I mean – a great cast, wonderful director and everyone on set. They are all very professional.’

To date Machel has taken on roles as diverse as a boxer, a faithful husband, a terrorist, a detective and a pastor. It is this versatility and commitment to playing different characters that has scooped him a slew of awards including AAMA, Planet Africa, Giama (US), Nigerian Entertainment (US), Nafca (US), Screen Nation (UK), Ghana Movie And Zafaa (UK) Awards.
