Kuyimba Afrika, a short video film that captures the laugh-filled but physically draining journey of a creative group of musicians, photographers and videographers from Cape Town to Malawi, has now gone viral.
The video (http://www.bitocreative.com/film-reel/2012/09/06/kuyimba-afrika/) showcases the music of three indie outfits: LA.VI, Holiday Murray and Bateleur. It captures the bands as they set off on the expedition in October 2011 from Cape Town, South Africa through Zimbabwe and Mozambique to the Lake of Stars Music and Arts Festival in Malawi.
Meanwhile, the Kuyimba Afrika photographic exhibition which resulted from the trip recently exhibited in Cape Town at Waiting Room’s Front Row, in collaboration with Orms Direct and Monarch Mountain Records.
“The three bands’ journey to Malawi was documented on both stills and video by photographers Adriaan Louw, Johno Mellish, Luca Vincenzo, Callen Jefferson, James Tuft and Kenan Tatt,’ says Vincenzo.
The exhibition was notable for its conceptualisation of a new hanging mechanism that was cost effective but still showcased the images in an exciting and creative way. It also offered an opportunity for the group of creatives to conceptualise ideas into action and they were really excited about the final result.
