The Afrikaans-language film, Die Wonderwerker (36 prints), directed by veteran South African filmmaker Katinka Heyns, made the number three spot in the combined Top 10 at the local box office for the weekend of 14 to 16 September.
Die Wonderwerker made R798,556 over the weekend and its cumulative box office after two weeks is just over R2m.
In top spot was the new 3D release Resident Evil: Retribution (68 prints) which made R1.1m, followed by another 3D release, Step Up 4: Revolution (61 prints) which made R978,333. The latter’s cumulative box office after five weeks is R16.2m.
Madea’s Witness Protection (51 prints) made the number four spot with R766,745 and Total Recall (68 prints) the fifth spot with R583,197. (Figures supplied by SAFACT)
