The fourth in the Step Up dance film franchise, Step Up Revolution (including 3D) (78 prints), went straight to the top of the South Africa box office when it released on the weekend of 17 to 19 August, making an impressive R3.9m.
In second spot over the weekend was the animated Brave (including 3D) (69 prints), which has been on release for three weeks and has made R9.3m to date. The Dark Knight Rises (83 prints) came in at third spot. It has made R13.2m in four weeks.
The fourth and fifth spots were occupied respectively by Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (including 3D) (67 prints) which has made R1.8m in two weeks and That’s My Boy (50 prints), at R2.4m after three weeks.
Meanwhile, Ice Age 4: Continental Drift (including 3D) (49 prints) has been on release for eight weeks and has made R27.4m. It was in seventh spot in the box office Top Ten over the weekend.
In eighth spot was the South African comedy Mad Buddies (31 prints), which has been on release for nine weeks and has made R24.9m to date. (Figures supplied by SAFACT)
