New animated 3D release Brave (93 prints) , featuring the voices of Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson and Kelly Macdonald, went straight to the top of the South African box office Combined Top 10 over the weekend of 3 to 5 August. It made R2.7m.
In the number two spot was the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises (93 prints), which has made R8.8m in two weeks. It was followed by new release, the action crime thriller, Safe (47 prints), The Amazing Spider-Man (including 3D) (81 prints) and new release, That’s My Boy (59 prints), starring Adam Sandler and Adam Sandberg. Box office figures of these four films over the weekend were respectively – R2.3m; R895,917; R851,880; and R724,788.
South African comedy Mad Buddies (59 prints) was still in the Top 10 after seven weeks of release. It was in the number eight spot and has made R23.7m to date.
Another South African film, Lucky (4 prints), has made R101,848 after three weeks of release. (Figures supplied by SAFACT)
