Schuster holds his own

Flanked by two blockbuster 3D animated Hollywood releases, Mad Buddies (93 prints), the new South African comedy starring Leon Schuster, continues to perform extremely well at the local box and made the number two spot of the Combined Top 10 for the weekend of 6 to 8 July.

Mad Buddies, which has been on release for three weeks, made R2.6m over the weekend. It has a cumulative box office of R16.5m.

In top spot over the weekend was Ice Age 4: Continental Drift (including 3D) (103 prints) which made R4.6m (cumulative box office after two weeks is R14.7m). Coming in at number three was Madagascar 3 (including 3D) (90 prints) with R2.5m. After four weeks of release the film has made R23.4m.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest film, The Dictator, was released over the weekend with 45 prints and made R1.4m which secured it the number four spot in the Combined Top 10. It was followed by Snow White & The Huntsman (65 prints) which made R767,544. The film has been on release for six weeks and has accumulated R12.3m.

The Avengers (including 3D) (12 prints) is still on release after 11 weeks and has made a gigantic R37.8m to date. (Figures supplied by SAFACT)
