On 15 May South African public broadcaster SABC signed a deal with the South African Football Association (Safa) for the rights to broadcast all home matches played by national soccer teams Bafana Bafana (Men) and Banyana Banyana (Women), as well as the Under 23 national team, over the next three years.

Business Day reports that the deal is believed to be worth R225m. The previous deal signed between Safa and the SABC expired in March last year and was worth in the region of R30m.

According to SABC News, negotiations are still underway with French broadcaster Sport Five, which is the Confederation for African Football’s broadcast partner, regarding Bafana Bafana away days in Africa.

Similarly, negotiations for rights to AFCON 2013 and CHAN 2014 are still ongoing.
