Channel 24 reports that South African public broadcaster SABC is to launch a separate sport channel in October this year, branded SABC Sport. This is one of 15 new channels the SABC plans to launch once the country migrates to digital terrestrial television (DTT).
According to the article, the SABC will spend R732.7m over the next two years on the sport channel.
The broadcaster lost the rights to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) in 2007 and is now reportedly negotiating with the South African Football Association to broadcast all Bafana Bafana games played in South Africa over the next three years.
