Times Live reports that the online world now has access to previously privileged documents relating to South Africa’s iconic former president, Nelson Mandela (“Madiba’), thanks to a new interactive website (archive.nelsonmandela.org).
Visitors to the website will find photos, video footage, digitised letters that Mandela wrote during his 27-year-long incarceration on Robben Island, and memorabilia drawn from Mandela’s Centre of Memory exhibition in Johannesburg.
The website, which is not quite completed yet, is a partnership between the Centre of Memory and Google’s Cultural Institute. Google reportedly donated R9.5m to the project.
Regarded as one the greatest statesmen in history, Mandela is now 93 years old.
